Where’s the quick maths? Collectors of path of exile orbs think that we don’t know how much the base damage will scale anyway, so no way to do the real maths yet. This is based on a lvl 1 spectral shield throw gem. There’s no info yet on how the gem levels scale the skill. Increasing the base phys damage per armour/evasion with gem levels would make the skill really good, so I’m assuming either just the flat phys damage is scaled, the projectile damage penatly is lowered (seems unlikely at 25%) or the more attack speed is increased.
Recalculated based on a Shield crafted with deafening essence of dread. To give a rather realistic perspective, the following picture was a realistic alt+regaled shield with T1 + armour and T1 armour/stun recovery hybrid, then crafted Haku%armour. It’s base damage would be at 598 pDPS at gem lvl 1.
Conc Effect is nice, true, but Spectral Shield Throw with Fork Support seems like it would be godly against enemies up against a wall since it’s effectively around an 180% more damage multiplier if you manage that.
Doryani’s Fist won’t work as confirmed by Bex, they might update the wording on it so it’s clearer it doesn’t work. It comes down to that it only works with unarmed attacks (same for Facebreaker), and Spectral Shield Throw being an off-hand attack means it’s not an unarmed attack.
For comparison, an insane elder siege axe can reach up to 750 pdps with dedicated scaling on the tree. Of course, you do get to use a stat-stick in your main hand (such as prismatic eclipse) with Spectral Shield Throw (of course, you can do that with an axe, too, but you’d need to make sure you pick a skill that doesn’t alternate hands or doesn’t use your stat stick weapon type). 1) I think the biggest problem is when the game was back in beta, the selling point was that your skills are poe items, but more so, you define them! 4) Ice Nova and Vortex. These skills have the Sweep/EQ/Ice Crash problem of kinda pissing in each others’ cereal – either Vortex is good, and Ice Nova sees no use, or Ice Nova is good, and Vortex sees no use. I think they could use a little bit more to differentiate between the two – given Vortex’s theme of chilling, I think giving it a small damage reduction and then a bonus with hit damage against chilled enemies could be neat.
5) Vaal skills. Pretty much just across the board, with a handful of exceptions (Vaal Clarity 4 life), Vaal skills are really hard to justify using over a support setup (golems, CwDT, etc.) I think GGG needs to revisit them as a whole and decide what they should be in the current state of the game – be it boss nukes, map-clearers, or panic buttons. Figure out what they’re best for, and make them good at it without necessarily being busted.

In Path of Exile, the purpose of mapping is to progress up through the map tiers where bosses become more difficult but the poe items become more lucrative. Also as your character levels past level 76, zones in Act 10 give diminishing experience. High level maps are the only way to gain reasonable experience. 3. Completion of a map means killing the map boss under certain circumstances. To complete tier 1-5, you need to kill the boss in a magic version of that map (blue), or higher. To complete tier 6-10, the map needs to be at least rare (yellow). For tiers 11-16, the map needs to be rare AND corrupted.
4. Some maps drop poe orbs called a shaper’s orb. A shaper’s orb upgrades a map by adding 5 tiers. So orbing a tier 5 “Mesa” map turns it into a tier 10 “Shaped Mesa” map. It has the same layout and boss, but is now filled with high level monsters and loot equivalent to other tier 10′s. It is effectively a tier 10 now.
5. When you run Map X, you can find maps up to 2 levels higher than Map X. These maps are selected from 2 places. Your completed maps and maps located adjacent to Map X on the Atlas of Worlds.
6. Complete maps up through tier 10, and then stop completing once you reach tier 11-15. Instead, run shaped maps at these tiers. Tier 16 is an exception and is important to complete, since a tier 16 literally cannot drop from any shaped tier 15 until it’s added to your completed pool. Complete every unique map, as well.
7. To get shaper’s orbs from tier 11-16 maps, you will have to complete those maps first, adding them to your pool. Eventually, remove them with path of exile items called a Master Cartographer’s Seal. Seals are expensive, and until you can afford it, just deal with running those maps.
8. You can kill the bosses on these particular maps since you have already completed them, but do not kill the bosses on other adjacent maps you find in the process of running these. Killing those bosses WILL add those maps to your drop pool. Even if you kill a boss from a regular white or blue or uncorrupted yellow map, it will still add the map to your completion pool.
